We all know that phrase “wear the clothes, don’t let them wear you.” You can wear those designer shoes or clothes that everyone has been dying to get a hold of, but that’s all you’ll be doing without one of life’s little essentials, confidence.

I truly believe it’s not the clothes or makeup that makes a woman beautiful, but what’s underneath. Clothes should only be an extension of your beauty and personality.

It’s those girls who exude this trait that make heads turn and stare instead of just a glance to admire a girl’s ability to master mixing florals with stripes in her outfit.

Now, I know building your confidence doesn’t just happen over night. It’s a life long task that grows easier with time, but there are a few ways you can start increasing it now.

First, stop bringing yourself down with negative comments about your body every time you go to look at yourself in the mirror. Unless you have the ability to rid of any imperfections with the snap of your fingers, things aren’t going to change any time soon.

Instead of concentrating on all the bad, you should take the time to appreciate the good. If you love your legs, show them off with a new pair of high-waisted shorts or a flirty skirt. If you love your arms don’t let them hide under a pair of sleeves. Let them be free with a sleeveless top.

Find clothes that suit your body type and not the other way around. It’s the surest way to bring up your confidence points since you’ll be wearing clothes to highlight the best parts of your body.

If you find a piece of clothing that you absolutely love but they don’t have your size put it down. It may be painful at first but just move on to something better that will fit. Don’t say that you are going to lose weight in order to fit into that dress or top. Choose clothes that fit your body now and love what you have in the present.

Yes, sometimes shopping for clothes that actually fit you takes work but so does everything else in life. You’ll thank yourself in the future for the extra time and effort when you can easily slip on an outfit without having to suck anything in or worry if it makes your middle look a little too noticeable.

If you truly want to be confident in your clothes find a style that works for you whatever that style may be. Don’t feel pressured to wear the latest trends if you think they look ridiculous. People can easily see when you’re not comfortable in your own clothes.

Better yet, put your own twist on a new trend. It’s those little tweaks we make by using certain accessories of pieces of clothing over others that make our styles unique to our personality.

But this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take a risk every once in a while when shopping for new clothes. Don’t turn up your nose so quickly to that piece of clothing that you think will look bad on you. Try that dress or top on first before you make your final judgment. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that it looks quite good on you.
