Santa Fe College’s Visual Arts Faculty Gallery will open once again Friday night, aimed at giving students insight into the artistic process.

The 22nd annual gallery opening, which will last from 7 to 9 p.m., will be held at the Santa Fe Gallery on the SFC campus.

It will showcase a variety of art displays created by SFC faculty, many of whom are practicing artists in Gainesville.

The event will include catered food and live music.

Admission is free and open to the public. People can visit through Jan. 16, according to a news release.

The exhibition will focus on teaching students about the process of how the art was created, said Kyle Novak, gallery manager.

It will also show students the inspiration behind the designs, he said.

“For students, it’s important to see work in all different stages of development,” Novak said. “We view ourselves quite literally as an extension of the classroom, which is what makes us different.”

Some students from both UF and SFC are eager to learn from the experiences of the artists.

Sara Moseley, a 21-year-old SFC graduate, said interactions with the artists, who will be at the gallery to explain their pieces, can be valuable.

“They’re teaching you how to hone your talents, and you’re learning from these people all semester,” Moseley said. “It’s a good way to nonverbally absorb their teachings through their work.”
