Gainesville Police arrested a local man Saturday afternoon after officers reported he threatened a man with a baseball bat and a toy gun.

Officers arrested 48-year-old Bobby Lee Bean on aggravated assault charges, according to a GPD arrest report.

At 12:35 p.m., Bean threatened Johnell Wayne Gordon with an aluminum baseball bat in the 1400 block of East University Avenue. Bean then left the area and returned about 20 minutes later. He threatened Gordon again, pulling what Gordon believed was a handgun out of his waistband, according to the report.

Gordon went into a house and called police.

When police arrived, they found the car Bean was reportedly driving, along with the gun and bat.

Officers discovered a toy gun had been painted black to look like a real handgun, according to the report. Bean denied pulling the gun and told police he’d gotten into a fight with Gordon the day before. He said the toy gun was a gift for his nephew.

Bean was booked into jail at about 1 p.m., where he remained with a $30,000 bond.
