Taylore Fuller bats against Jacksonville during Florida’s 6-0 win on Feb. 19, 2014, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Fuller helped lead the Gators to a 7-0 victory over Hofstra on Saturday.

For the second straight Southeastern Conference series, the Gators were behind.

Against LSU on Friday at Tiger Park, No. 1 Florida trailed 5-2 through the first six frames.

But Taylore Fuller kept the team in the game.

With the Gators one out away from losing just their second game of the season, the Trenton, Fla., native belted a grand slam down the left field line to give Florida a 6-5 lead.

UF (27-1, 3-1 SEC) ultimately won the game against LSU 7-6 in eight frames.

The six runs Florida surrendered were the most since giving up eight in its 15-inning win against Nebraska in the Women’s College World Series on June 1.

The Gators struggled at the plate, notching only one hit until the seventh but still managed to get on base after drawing 11 walks and being hit by five pitches. Second baseman Chelsea Herndon was walked on three of her five plate appearances and hit on a fourth occasion.

After being hit by LSU starter Baylee Corbello, sophomore Kelsey Stewart extended her on base streak to 28 games.

Florida had all five of its starting pitchers take the mound.

Freshman Delanie Gourley, starting her second straight game, played only two innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs — including a two-run slam by LSU designated player Sahvanna Jaquish in the top of the third.

Junior Lauren Haeger pitched four innings, giving up two hits and a pair of runs while also fanning two at the plate.

Senior Hannah Rogers took care of the Tigers to close out the contest, giving up one run in the seventh to force extra innings. But the Lake Wales native held LSU scoreless in the eighth after Florida earned its seventh run of the night when freshman Justine McLean was walked in a bases-loaded situation.
