Free how-to-quit tobacco classes now offered at Grace Marketplace

Free how-to-quit smoking classes are now available at Grace Marketplace.

The program, which held its first session Sunday, is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida and the Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, said Sarah Catalanotto, tobacco program manager.

The classes are held every Sunday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Grace Marketplace’s Empowerment Center, located at 2845 NE 39th Ave. The course, which goes through the quitting process, is held once a week for six weeks, said Catalanotto.

Duane Gildea, tobacco treatment specialist, is the instructor for the how-to-quit classes. He said the Area Health Education Center chose Grace because of the location and the people they are able to help there.

“(The Quit Smoking class) is a potential model for what a community that believes in taking care of our most vulnerable citizens can do when people work together,” Gildea said.

To register for the classes at Grace Marketplace, call 866-341-2730.
