UF CLAS to host open student forums in search for new dean

There are three finalists in the search for a new dean for UF’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

An open forum will be held on campus this week until Tuesday, giving students an opportunity to interact with the finalists and ask questions.

The candidates are David Richardson, chemistry professor and interim dean of the UF College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Ann Cudd, vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas; and Christopher Long, associate dean for graduate and undergraduate studies at Penn State University.

Alisson Clark, senior writer for UF media relations, wrote in an email that two student members of the search committee are helping to facilitate the student meetings — one undergraduate and one graduate.

“The search committee is not participating in the special sessions as a group, but there may be members of the search committee at the sessions,” she said.

Elaine Turner, chairwoman of the search committee, wrote in a statement that the results will be collected and distributed to the search committee and then to the provost.

“I would expect anyone on the search committee who participated in any of the interview sessions, including the student forums, to bring their perceptions to the whole committee,” she said.
