The No. 2 Florida women’s tennis team (13-1, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) returned back home after a busy weekend on the road.
The Gators remain undefeated in SEC play and clinched the win in its last three road matches — including two sweeps last weekend.
Florida proved to be too much for Arkansas on Friday, finishing the contest with a 7-0 win.
The Gators also beat Missouri 7-0 on Sunday. UF struggled early during singles against the Tigers, but were able to close all six singles matches.
As for doubles on Sunday, the Gators set the tone at the beginning of the outing and secured the doubles point.
Coach Roland Thornqvist thinks that overall this past weekend was a successful one for his young squad.
"It’s really interesting watching this team, how we sort of have evolved these three months that we have been going on in spring," Thornqvist said. "When we first started in January, I thought our doubles play was really good and was ahead of our singles play."
Thornqvist thinks this young group is currently looking good at both singles and doubles — which is helpful with the difficult stretch coming up. He said the team is learning to rely more on its athleticism and strength in singles.
The Gators are taking advantage of the five day rest period to focus on the upcoming matchups at practice this week.
"Last Tuesday we had a very physical practice, when our men were playing, and this team really handled it well," Thornqvist said. "Tuesday is traditionally our fitness day. And so with this young team, last Tuesday was really tough and the team handled it really well."
Thornqvist is looking forward to how the athletes’ attitudes are going to be at practice, and whether or not they will have the same appetite for work as hard as they did at last week’s practice.
He said that his players should not be anxious or let the fear of fitness cloud their practice.

Coach Roland Thornqvist said his team will try to learn from its mistakes after Florida fell to Vanderbilt in Sunday's SEC Tournament championship game. “We can start from zero in our preparations," he said.
