Gainesville Police arrested a local man Monday evening after police said he approached two people with a pair of knives.

At about 6:35 p.m. Monday, Otha Brown Jr., 54, stepped outside his house, located in the 3500th block of SW 29th Terrace, and rubbed two large knives together. He said he would “slice and dice,” which caused two people to run inside and lock their door, according to a police report.Earlier that day, police filed a sworn complaint on Brown for exposing sexual organs.

The people told officers they thought he grabbed the knives after hearing them talk about the complaint, according to the report.

When police arrived and told Brown to put his hands on his head, he instead curled his arm into his stomach, according to the report.

Officers then forced Brown into handcuffs and talked with the people, one of whom said, “I’m very terrified of him,” according to the report.

Brown told police the knives were for a chicken he planned to cook.

Since 2008, Brown has been found guilty on four charges of battery and three charges of resisting an officer, according to Alachua County court records.

Police arrested Brown on two charges for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one charge for resisting an officer without violence.

Authorities took Brown to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, he remains in lieu of a $205,000 bond.
