Gainesville Police arrested a Florida man Saturday morning after police said he threatened an officer in hopes of going to jail.

At about 1 a.m. Saturday, Calvin Lavon Lane, 33, approached an officer in the 100 block of Southwest Second Street and said he wanted to be arrested, according to a GPD report.

The officer said he would not take Lane to jail, but Lane had a backup plan.

Lane told the officer he could slap him and go to jail. He then took off his shirt and raised his clenched fists, according to the report.

He approached the officer, who feared Lane would punch him. The officer soon arrested Lane without incident.

Lane said he wanted to go to jail because he had nowhere else to go, according to the report.

Since 2014, Lane was found guilty on charges of fleeing from police, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license, according to Alachua County court records.

Police charged Lane with simple assault on an officer and took him to the Alachua County Jail where he remains, as of press time, in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
