After losing its first game of the College World Series, Florida is one loss away from postseason elimination.

Coastal Carolina (50-16) defeated No. 1 seed UF (52-15) 2-1 in the CWS in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday night.

Andrew Beckwith (13-1) threw a complete game for the Chanticleers, allowing seven hits and striking out seven Florida batters in just 98 pitches.

Meanwhile, Junior Logan Shore drew the start for Florida and gave up five hits and two runs over five innings.

“He was just keeping us off balance all night,” Florida sophomore Jeremy Vasquez said of Beckwith. “We couldn’t adjust.”

Florida was held scoreless until the fifth inning. After freshman Deacon Liput doubled down the right-field line and later advanced to third, Nelson Maldonado singled to center field to tie the game at 1-1.

But Coastal Carolina’s Zach Remillard hit an RBI triple in the next inning to take the lead for good.

“We did everything we possibly could pitching-wise to keep it right there,” UF coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “But their starter was really good.”

No Florida hitter had more than one hit, but the Gators had scoring chances throughout the night. UF left four runners on base.

Next, Florida will face Texas Tech on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

“There’s a lot of people disappointed. I’m disappointed… But we’ll bounce back,” O’Sullivan said. “We’ve got no choice.”
