During a 14-minute meeting Tuesday night, Student Senate added three members to the elections commission and passed one resolution.

With 54 senators present, Senate was able to hold the meeting, since a minimum of 51 senators need to be there, Senate President Smith Meyers said. Senate approved new members to the commission and a resolution confirming Spring Student Government election dates.

Troy Mainzer, Michael Livers and Stefano Battistoni were added to the commission without objection. UF Student Body President Susan Webster, Supreme Court Chief Justice Chris Tribbey and Meyers each nominated one member to the commission, SG Judiciary Committee chairman Trevor Scheattle said.

The six election commissioners serve one-year terms, with three members being replaced every Spring and Fall. Three new members needed to be added, Scheattle said.

Senate also approved having Spring SG election voting days on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, with a runoff election from Feb. 28 to March 1 if needed.

Meyers said the runoff election would only be held if the election resulted in a tie or was contested. Changed dates will not affect campaigning.

During her report, allocations committee chairwoman Janae Moodie (Impact, Liberal Arts) congratulated senators who were present.

“Thank you once again for coming and making quorum; this is awesome,” she said.

Forty-four senators were absent at the meeting.

“I think people probably made plans, especially traveling with their family members to leave Gainesville,” Meyers said.
