Health Science Center Library second floor open 24/7 for finals week

The second floor of the UF Health Science Center Library is now open 24/7 to help students get ready for finals.

Health science students now have access to 30 computers, desks and study carrels in the library at any time of day after filling out a form and agreeing to the library’s after-hours policies, said Maggie Ansell, a nursing and consumer health liaison librarian at the HSC Library. The second floor can accommodate more than 50 students for group or individual studying.

“You just give your information of who you are, and you agree that you’re not gonna have a party or anything like that, or let people who haven’t registered into the library,” Ansell said.

Before the extended hours were introduced, the library was open from 7 a.m. to midnight. After hosting a trial period where the library was kept open 24/5, Ansell said the library saw the need, so hours were extended indefinitely.

Jessica Melo, 22, said the extra hours will allow her to study during nighttime, which she prefers.

“I prefer the HSC Library rather than Marston or West, since those get overly packed,” the UF microbiology senior said.

UF pharmacy first-year student Rebeca Corominas said the library environment will help her focus for upcoming exams.

“The new schedule gives HSC students a place to study late into the night, which we desperately need,” the 22-year-old said.
