Maxime Rooney might be lacking in experience, but the Livermore, California, native has stepped up at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan.

With just his freshman season at Florida under his belt, Rooney has taken part in all but one of the first four days of competition, including a gold medal-performance in the men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay on Day 1.

Rooney also made it to the semifinals of the 200m freestyle after finishing runner-up in the preliminary round on Day 2, but was unable to make the cut for the event’s final round.

After sitting out Day 3, Rooney had another solid performance on Day 4, this time in the 100m freestyle. Rooney improved on his ninth-place preliminary time, earning a spot in Thursday’s final round.

Rooney’s semifinal time of 49.16 seconds was good for seventh place, and was almost a half second faster than his preliminary time of 49.55 seconds.

Rooney was one of three Gators to compete on Day 4 of the games. Redshirt juniors Bayley Main and Georgia Marris also participated.

Main, the younger brother of former Gator swimmer Corey Main, competed in the 100m freestyle with Rooney. Main did not move on to the semifinals with Rooney, however.

Main’s time of 51.90 seconds put him in 61st place for the event. He also finished 25th overall in the 50m backstroke preliminary round a day earlier.

Marris, who redshirted the 2016-2017 season, took 22nd place in the women’s 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:01.42. She also competed in the 100m freestyle earlier in the week, finishing 25th in the event’s preliminary round.

Both Main and Marris are swimming for New Zealand.

Mitch D’Arrigo, a senior last year, was inactive on Day 4. The Rome, Italy, native did take sixth place overall in the men’s 200m freestyle finals on Day 3.

D’Arrigo’s finals time of 1:47.85 was nearly two seconds lower than his preliminary mark.
