Armed with a crowbar, an unknown man demanded the money from the cash register at a Circle K convenience store Sunday morning, Gainesville Police said.

The man walked into the store, located at 5708 NW 34th Blvd., just before 7 a.m. demanding money, Officer Ben Tobias, a GPD spokesperson, wrote in an email. He then swung his crowbar at the clerk behind the counter, and she gave him about $120 in cash, Tobias said. He didn’t hit her or damage anything in the store.

The man took the money and packs of cigarettes before running from the store, Tobias said.

The store’s clerk told officers, including GPD’s K-9 Unit, who responded to the store’s armed robbery the man was black, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build, Tobias said. She said he was wearing sunglasses, a blue beanie, a gray-and-beige plaid long-sleeve, button-up shirt, blue pants and black boots.

Officers tracked the man into Pine Ridge Apartments about a block away but were not able to find him, Tobias said.

Tobias said the investigation is ongoing.

GPD is asking anyone with information about the robbery to call its Detective Bureau at 352-393-7670 or CrimeStoppers at 352-372-STOP, Tobias said.
