A man called Gainesville Police on Saturday and reported he was just raped and another man was shot.

After officers arrived at the scene, they found the caller and a man, who looked to be in his 20s, lying on the street at 300 NE Waldo Road, according to a media release. The man had been shot in the chin and shoulder.

Officers performed first aid on the second victim until emergency medical services arrived and took him to UF Health Shands Hospital, according to the release.

The first victim, who is allegedly a known prostitute, had been sexually battered at gunpoint at a nearby house by an unknown suspect, according to the release.

As the suspect left on his bicycle, he got into a confrontation with another man and shot him in the area of 1125 NE Third Ave. The second victim ran to Waldo Road before collapsing.

The suspect was not located, and there is no description available at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should call GPD at 352-955-1818 or report anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
