As Florida reached more than 100,000 cases of COVID-19, Alachua County reported 22 new cases of the virus Monday.

Most of Alachua County’s reported cases are in residents aged 15-24, according to the Florida Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard. The median ages of all cases is 32, which is lower than the statewide average of 43.

The percent of positive tests has continued to increase since last week. Out of 35,659 tests, 2.07 percent were positive, according to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The county now has 738 cases of the virus. No new fatalities were reported. Eighty-seven residents are hospitalized.

Alachua County is considered a COVID-19 hotspot, according to a Monday New York Times report map. Alachua County is in dark red on the map, and “counties with an increase in the rate of cases are shaded darker,” according to the report. Hotspots are places where the number of cases has risen in the last two weeks.
