What feels like ages agofive months to be exactthere was a time when being in a room filled with hundreds of sweaty people grooving to the beat of the music was acceptable.

But with the rise of COVID-19 throughout the world, the very thought of being closer than six feet to a stranger may bring an eerie feeling.

To pay homage to the glorious time concert goers may have taken for granted, flipturn released a music video of a live performance of "Did I Love you (Like I Promised To)" from one of the last shows they performed on tour at High Dive on Feb. 15. The song is the final track off their latest EP, "Something You Needed," released Feb.7.

With its home-movie vibe, the music video brings nostalgia into play, giving fans, who long for the euphoric feeling of being at a show, a taste of their concert, as clips alternate between the band members and fans, showing an intimate bond between the two during their last performance of the night.

From the moment they wrote the song, they knew it was going to be a good closure for their shows because of different dynamics within the song. Dillon Basse, flipturn lead vocalist, explained how they usually follow a particular song structure where they write the verse, chorus, verse, followed by the bridge. But for this specific song, they experimented with different instrumentation and just "let it flow" on its own, he said.

"It was one of those songs that when we were writing it, and we were working on it and like practicing it, and we're like, ‘Damn, this is really something different.’ You know, this, we're very proud of it," said Basse.

What starts as a melodic ballad and shifts into drum-heavy performance with a steady bass, the emotionally driven song described by Madeline Jarman, lead bassist, is one that listeners can interpret in a way that fits their situations in life, she said.

And it's undeniable the connection fans have with the song as the music video shows snippets of fans recording the moment on their phones as they sing the heartfelt lyrics back at them. Jarman noted how after the few shows they performed the song at, there were times when fans would come up to them to express how they relate to the song.

From playing inside a garage in Fernandina Beach to a stage at Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, flipturn has delivered a simple yet memorable music video that captures the magnetism of their shows.
