Student Government Productions announces Gunna and Neon Trees performing, ACCENT announces Emmanuel Acho speaking.

Student tickets start at $25 for Gator Growl, and Acho tickets are free of charge

Following the Aug. 23 sold out BROCKHAMPTON concert, Student Government Productions announced two more events to elevate the student experience, which will be paid for by a $1.55 million reserve funds transfer to SG agencies.

At the end of BROCKHAMPTON’s concert, SGP, a SG-funded organization focused on bringing entertainers to UF, kicked off the first day of Fall classes with the announcement of its Homecoming and Gator Growl performers: Gunna and Neon Trees

The two will perform Oct. 8 at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The announcement was made with flyers and signs handed out at the end of the BROCKHAMPTON concert.

ACCENT Speakers Bureau, another SG agency funded by student fees and focused on bringing speakers to UF, announced Tuesday it will host Emmanuel Acho as a guest speaker on Aug. 30.

The event will take place in person at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m.

Acho is a former NFL linebacker, current Fox Sports analyst and podcast host, popularly known for his football career and his book “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man,” which appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.

With two events announced and one completed within the first week of Fall semester, SG’s effort to enhance the student experience appears to be in full swing. This eventful start is a reflection of the reserve fund transfer which allocated $750,000 for SGP and $250,000 for the Accent Speakers Bureau on top of the agency's early respective funding of $800,000 and $497,750, according to the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget

It is still unclear how much SGP and Accent will pay the performers and The Alligator requested their contracts.

Gunna, a rapper with more than 25 million monthly Spotify listeners, and Neon Trees’ performances will be hosted by the Gator Growl staff and UF Homecoming with help from SGP and Florida Blue Key, said Brady Alexander, the executive producer of Gator Growl 2021.

Neon Trees, a rock band with more than 7 million monthly listeners, will open for Gunna.

Tickets for groups went on sale Aug. 16. To be eligible for group tickets, a registered student organization must purchase at least 20 tickets starting at $20 each. Individual students can purchase tickets with a maximum of six per UFID starting at $25. General public tickets start at $45, Alexander wrote in an email.

All tickets will be available starting 12 p.m. Aug. 27 at the O’Connell Center Box Office on a first come first serve basis until they sell out, Alexander wrote. Tickets can also be purchased online on Ticketmaster, and students can enter their eight-digit student ID to buy them online. Gates open for the show at 5 p.m.
