No. 23 Florida volleyball and Alabama clash Wednesday in Tuscaloosa

The Gators and Crimson Tide meet for the 50th time in program history

The Gators hit the road for a midweek match against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Wednesday . 

Florida (12-6, 6-2) swept Texas A&M Saturday in front of a rowdy home crowd. Setter Marlie Monserez led the Gators to a .438 hitting percentage, its third-highest of the season. The senior’s pristine passing resulted in 34 assists, averaging 11.33 per set, to bring her season total to 710 in 18 matches. She bolstered her stat line with three kills, four digs and two blocks. 

Monserez was named SEC Setter of the Week for the fourth time this season Monday. The Windermere, Florida, native currently ranks third in the conference with 11.09 assists per set. 

Alabama (9-9, 1-5) has enjoyed an extended break, its last match occurring on Oct. 13. The Crimson Tide knocked off Missouri in five sets, their first conference win of the season. 

Florida will attempt to stay perfect against Alabama. The Gators have never lost to the Crimson Tide on the volleyball court, winning all 49 previous meetings. Forty seven of those wins come under the leadership of Florida head coach Mary Wise. Earlier this season, Wise and her team lost to Mississippi State for the first time in program history.

The most recent matchup came last season, the Gators swept Alabama (25-21, 25-17, 25-22). Outside hitters T’ara Ceasar and Thayer Hall led the offensive onslaught with 26 combined kills. 

Wednesday's match inside Foster Auditorium begins at 8 p.m. and can be watched on ESPNU.
