Gainesville police are investigating a shooting that happened outside the Clarence R. Kelly Center Friday.

Multiple bullets hit the building, located at 1701 NE 8th Ave. near the East Gainesville Walmart, but staff and children were not harmed, Gainesville Police Department spokesperson Graham Glover said. It is not clear whether the shooter was targeting the center as of Sunday.

The community center, which reopened after renovations June 19, declined to comment on the shooting.

A grand jury recently indicted 11 Gainesville gang members for crimes including the Gainesville American Legion shoot-out, which killed a 13-year-old boy last year.

Gainesville police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Combined Communications Center at 352-955-1818. To remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
