Two Gainesville men were arrested after their 18-year-old accomplice in a robbery was shot dead at The Crossing at Santa Fe apartments.

While Jacoby Edwards, 18, turned himself into the Alachua County Jail Dec. 11, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrested Andrew Bleau, 18, Monday at Harbor Cove Apartments. Both men were charged for armed home invasion robbery, homicide and criminal conspiracy.

On the night of Dec. 9, Bleau, Edwards and Cameron Gibbs went to The Crossing complex, located at 3205 NW 83rd St., intending to rob an apartment while armed, court records show.

Edwards knew the robbery victim and was allowed into their apartment, according to the ACSO press release. After Edwards left, he returned to the apartment with Bleau and Gibbs. Armed with a handgun, they followed him into the apartment and ordered the victim to get on the ground.

The resident retrieved a handgun and allegedly shot Gibbs and Bleau in self-defense, according to the press release. The bullet only grazed Bleau but injured Gibbs. Bleau and Edwards fled the scene and left an injured Gibbs at the apartment, police said.

Law enforcement immediately treated Gibbs for a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Both individuals have no prior criminal records, according to court records.
