Gators close out Auburn Invitational with eight total event wins

Florida’s men's swimming and diving landed one-two-three in 200-meter breast.

The Auburn Invitational was the last meet before the Southeastern Conference championships. Florida’s swimming and diving team sent 20 athletes to the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Alabama. 

Florida’s No. 3 men and No. 7 women ended the opening day with four wins.

Florida freshman Edouard Fullum-Huot led the 50-meter freestyle with a 19.46-second time. Sophomore Chance Tirheimer posted 19.79 seconds, and Dawson Joyce posted a 19.94-second time in the event.

Florida sophomore Ben Cote finished first with a 3:47.38 in the 400-meter individual medley, surpassing senior Gator Brennan Gravley with a 3:47.63. 

Florida junior Jace Crawford won the 100-meter butterfly in 46.42 seconds. 

Cameron Abaqueta — former SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week — landed the 100-meter backstroke victory with a 47.11-second time. 

Florida sophomore Mary Kate Kelley won third in the 100-meter backstroke, posting a 55.62-second time. Junior Gator Madison Kolessar swam a 4:19.23, landing third in the 400-meter individual medley. 

The Gators secured four more wins Saturday.

Senior Tyler Watson’s 14:48.34 led the 1,650-meter freestyle. Florida junior Jack VanDeusen finished second, and senior Nicholas Hernandex-Tome, Gravley, and Cote rounded out the top five. Gravely and Watson both had B-cut times against Florida State. 

Fullum-Huot won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 42.49 seconds.

Crawford claimed first in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:43.49, and junior Billy Jones trailed behind in third at 1:45.37.

Florida sophomore Raphael Rached Windmuller came in first in the 200-meter breaststroke with a 1:55.95 time. Junior Gator Amro Al-Wir finished second, and sophomore Peter Bretzmann landed third.

Kelley swam 1:57.65 in the 200-meter backstroke and took third place.

Jessica Strong and Anna Moore were in sixth and seventh place in the 200-meter breaststroke.

The Gators will compete next at the SEC championships from Feb. 14-18 in Texas.
