Gainesville police responds to downtown shooting

Victim with life-threatening injuries transported to the hospital

A victim was severely injured in a downtown Gainesville shooting, according to a press release from the Gainesville Police Department.

The press release did not mention if GPD has identified the shooter.

GPD was patrolling the downtown area on foot when officers heard gunshots at 1:07 a.m. Officers arrived at 100 South Main St. to a victim suffering from a gunshot, according to the press release.

The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting took place near downtown bars Simons, Barcade and University Club. Barcade patrons were instructed to not leave the building. University Club patrons were instructed to exit the building from its back entrance.

Anyone with information of the incident, can call the GPD Combined Communication Center at 352-955-1818.
