UF’s College of Education appointed Carrie Geiger to be the next director of the P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School Tuesday afternoon.
Geiger has over 13 years of administration experience with P.K. Yonge and over 21 years of direct teaching experience in Alachua County Public Schools, according to UF’s press release. She’s currently P.K. Yonge’s secondary school principal.
Geiger served as a professor for UF’s College of Education since 1999, according to the press release. She taught literacy classes, such as children’s literature and reading language arts methods.
Lynda Hayes, the previous P.K. Yonge director, held the position since 2011. She will continue to serve as interim director through the leadership transition.
P.K. Yonge is a unit of UF’s College of Education and teaches pre-K through 12th grade. The school helps develop and implement new teaching strategies for the state of Florida through its research-based approach to teaching and learning.
According to its website, the institution’s high school is ranked the No. 1 public high school in North Central Florida, with a 100% graduation rate. It has been rated a Grade A school since 2002.
“As I step into this new role, I do so with a deep sense of honor and responsibility — committed to sustaining the remarkable legacy of P.K. Yonge while forging strong pathways to its future,” Geiger said in the press release. “My leadership will be focused on continuity, connection and the collective pursuit of excellence that defines who we are.”
