High school custodian charged with carrying two firearms on UF campus

The Buchholz High School employee had ammo in his pocket when arrested Sunday

An Alachua County Public Schools employee was arrested after carrying two firearms on UF campus Sunday night.

Ha’Mod McNutt was walking near Tigert Hall around 9 p.m. when a University Police Department officer spotted him.

McNutt, 28, was walking southbound when the UPD officer attempted to drive in front of him, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. McNutt made an abrupt turn and walked in the opposite direction.

The officer approached McNutt at Little Hall and asked why he was on campus. During their discussion, the officer reportedly noticed an item bulging from the front pocket of McNutt’s hoodie.

McNutt admitted he was carrying a weapon and was placed under arrest around 10 p.m. He was carrying two loaded handguns and had loose ammo in the front pocket of his pants, according to the arrest report.

McNutt also admitted he had the firearms on him Saturday, when an Alachua County sergeant saw him walking between Bryan Hall and Heavener Hall.

Buchholz High School in Gainesville lists McNutt on its website as one of the school’s custodians. A human resources employee at Alachua County Public Schools confirmed McNutt’s employment with the school district.

The arrest report lists McNutt’s home address in the town of Interlachen, about a 40-minute drive east from Gainesville. He has also listed a Gainesville address on his voter registration for at least nine years, until as recently as 2024.

McNutt is being held without bail in the Alachua County Jail, facing two charges of exhibiting a firearm on a school campus, according to court records. He has been trespassed from all UF properties in Alachua County.
