With only one point scored just two days ago, the Gators looked to change the tide of their Southeastern Conference stretch and find some consistency.

Ultimately, Florida’s men’s tennis team could only add one additional point, marking two points in the last two games.

Hitting a slump, No. 15 Florida (6-5) suffered its second consecutive loss to an SEC rival, the No. 33 Georgia Bulldogs (9-1), falling 4-1 in the dual match.

Florida opened up the match with a new doubles lineup, starting Australian junior Jeremy Jin and senior Tanapatt Nirundorn. The switch did not bring a spark, though, as the pairing was pushed aside 6-2.

The junior-freshman duo of Kevin Edengren and Andreas Timini tried to bounce back and even out the doubles portion, but were bested in a close 7-5 set.

The No. 89 doubles pair, junior Henry Jefferson and senior Lorenzo Claveire, kept the match extremely close. They went toe-to-toe with Georgia’s No. 64 doubles pairing, graduate Arda Azkara and senior Santiago Giamichelle. As the match dragged on, it was eventually abandoned 6-6, with the Gators up 3-1 in the set.

With back-to-back doubles match defeats, UF needed to win four straight singles to clinch the win. Ultimately, that reality never came to pass.

Florida found a way to get two critical matches to reach a third set, but both were abandoned.

Timini bounced back from the last game with a commanding tempo. He cruised into a fast 6-2 and 6-4 match victory to grab the first and only point for Florida.

Jefferson tried to avenge his broken four-match win streak with a skilled win over No. 42 Arda Azkara. Their first set went the distance as Jefferson won it with a clutch 7-6 (7-2) set performance. The second set saw Azkara storm to a 5-2 advantage, but after an hour and 37 minutes of play, the match ended and Azkara was awarded the point.

Senior Pablo Perez Ramos has had his fair share of elite matchups in his past two matchups, facing a No. 86 and No. 30-ranked opponent. He played well against both, taking both matches the distance.

Against Georgia’s William Jansen, Ramos first lost 7-5 but responded with a 7-6 (7-4) second-set victory. The match was later abandoned.

Claverie was beaten 6-3 in the first set by No. 60 Giamichelle, but swung back with a long 7-6 (7-2) second-set victory. That match was also later abandoned.

Nirundorn started slow but eventually picked things up and improved his ball placement. Derrick Chen finished the first set 7-5, but the Gator just would not give up without a fight. After every point he fell, he fought hard to even out the scoreboard. He was eventually bested in a monumental 7-6 (11-9) victory.

Edengren fought hard but fell into a deficit and snapped his four-game singles win streak. He lost his first match 6-3 and fell 6-4 in the next.

UF looks to stay alive in conference play against the Kentucky Wildcats (8-3) on the road. The Gators hope to improve their 2-3 away record this season on Friday in Lexington, Kentucky, at 5 p.m.
