The Gators’ bats once again came out to play after scoring 13 runs against South Carolina Sunday.

Florida logged 10 runs on nine hits, and was backed up by pitching, as four Gators combined to allow just four hits while logging 12 strikeouts.

Gators (19-3, 3-0 SEC) cruised to a 10-1 win over Stetson (9-13, 1-2 ASUN) at Condron Family Ballpark Tuesday night in the teams’ third meeting this season.

Junior pitcher Russell Sandefer earned his first start as a Gator. He set the tone early on, retiring the first nine Hatters he faced before being relieved for redshirt sophomore Caden McDonald.

The Gators started off with two walks from sophomore infielders Brendan Lawson and Ethan Surowiec, but senior outfielder Blake Cyr grounded out into a double play to end the first inning.

Florida drew first blood in the bottom of the third. Junior outfielder Hayden Yost led off with a double to left center field, and a sacrifice groundout from sophomore outfielder Kyle Jones sent Yost to third.

Then, sophomore infielder Ethan Surowiec doubled to center field with two outs to score Yost to make it a 1-0 ballgame after three.

But Stetson responded quickly to begin the fourth. With two outs, graduate infielder Yohann Dessureault hit an RBI single down the left field line to notch the game at one run apiece.

The Gators regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. With senior catcher Cole Stanford at third, Yost continued his big night with an RBI double to right field to make it a 2-1 game.

Jones was walked and Florida earned bases loaded with two outs. Lawson was hit by pitch, allowing freshman infielder Kolt Myers to trot home to make it a three-run ballgame.

Then, Surowiec singled to right-center field to plate Jones and Yost. That was followed by 2 RBI double down the right field line from Cyr to make it a 7-1 Gator advantage.

Stanford extended Florida’s lead in the fifth with a solo bomb to left field.

The Gators added two more in the next frame. Jones led things off with a single down the third base line and advanced all the way to third thanks to some nifty base running.

Surowiec walked to put runners on the corners. This set the stage for Cyr to score Jones with an RBI double to left-center field.

Freshman outfielder Cash Strayer proceeded to hit a sacrifice fly to send Surowiec home as Florida earned a 10-1 lead after six.

McDonald was relieved for freshman Jackson Hoyt in the seventh after finishing with five groundouts and two strikeouts while surrendering three hits.

Despite hitting a Hatter, Hoyt recovered to strike out the next two batters to leave one stranded in the seventh.

Hoyt was subbed for senior Billy Barlow in the eighth. Hoyt fanned three Hatters while issuing one walk and allowing zero hits.

Barlow logged the final five outs to secure the win for the Gators.

Florida is back in action with a three-game series against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, starting Friday at 7 p.m.
