Hare Krishna announced UF has suspended Krishna lunch until further notice.

The announcement, posted Monday on Instagram, said Krishna will provide more updates as more information becomes available.

UF spokesperson Cynthia Roldán confirmed the suspension to The Alligator and said it will remain in effect until further notice.

A Krishna box truck hit a female student on a Buckman Drive crosswalk on Feb. 23. She was transported to the hospital and is recovering from multiple broken bones.

According to Florida law, traffic crash reports aren’t available until 60 days after the incident, unless the person requesting the report was involved. The Alligator is unable to request the identification of the pedestrian at this time. No update has been made on her condition.

Immediately after the incident, Krishna cancelled its usual lunch hours on campus and then temporarily paused its service.

Adi Syama, the 36-year-old general manager of Krishna, said Krishna received an email from UF suspending the previous agreement the organization had with the university since 1971. Syama said Krishna wasn’t given any reason for the suspension.

“We, of course, feel quite sad by it, but we are fully compliant,” Syama said.

Krishna is asking to meet with the university to talk about possible solutions and to grasp understanding about the suspension, Syama said.

Syama said Krishna has never been in any situation like this, and they are hoping it's a “temporary circumstance”.

“There’s a lot of students who rely on us on a daily basis and have been for the last 50 years,” Syama said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
