Florida men’s tennis wrapped up its five-day run at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Southeast Regional on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia.

The senior-freshman duo of Henry Jefferson and Ty Host led Florida's top performance as they reached the doubles final.

Jefferson and Host received a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the main doubles draw, which began on Oct. 15. They then toppled Arthur Attrill and Alvaro Perez Guzman of Georgia State, 8-3. The Gators then defeated North Florida’s junior-freshman pair, João Portugal and Andreas Messis, 8-4, in the round of 16. To round out the last of the single-set matches in the quarterfinal round, the Englishman and the Aussie defeated No. 7 Justin Lyons and Azariah Rusher of Florida State, 8-3.

The Gators continued their dominance with a 6-1, 6-4 straight-set victory over Central Florida’s Nicolas Oliveira and Clement Lemire. With hopes of qualifying for the doubles portion of the NCAA Championship with a win in the final, the Gators were toppled 6-4, 3-6, 2-10. Instead, it will be the Knight duo of Wissam Abderrahman and Mohammad Alkotop who earned a qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships.

Florida’s other established duo acquired a 2-1 record in the main doubles draw, as their run was cut short in the quarterfinals. Senior Kevin Edengren and sophomore Andreas Timini entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and began by facing Georgia’s freshman duo, James Weber and Noble Renfrow. UF made quick work of them, winning 8-3; they carried momentum and routed Richard Biagiotti and Elias Shokry of Georgia Tech, 8-4.

The Gators were then extinguished 8-6 in the quarterfinal round by Georgia senior and sophomore, Maxime Dubouch and Noah Johnston.

Rounding out doubles play was the sophomore-freshman duo of Francesco Cordova and Roman Sancilio, who lost a close 8-5 duel with Florida State’s Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung.

The main draw singles did not go Florida’s way. Jefferson was defeated by Miami senior Ashton Adesoro due to an injury and Sancilio fell to FSU junior Elias Sumann 2-6, 6-2, 1-6. Host was foiled 6-4 in straight sets by Georgia junior Andrew Delgado and Edengren lost 7-5, 7-6 (3) to Dubouch.

Freshman Alaa Trifi made his tournament debut with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Georgia Tech fifth-year Elias Shokry. Florida Atlantic University’s Mark Havlicek tried to take the Gator down but was overpowered 6-1, 4-6, 4-6. The Tuniasian was eventually defeated 6-3 in straight sets by Miami senior Jakub Kroslak.

Timini recorded one win and one loss in the main singles draw. His victory came in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 performance over Mercer University senior Nicholas Niox Chateau. Florida State freshman Seydina Andre thrashed the Gator 6-3, 6-2.

In the qualifying singles draws, Cordova defeated Stetson junior Gian Durrer in straight sets, 6-4, while Sancilio swept Georgia State junior Joao Pimenta 6-0, 6-2. Cordova was eventually eliminated in a 6-2 straight-set battle against Georgia freshman Oliver Sanders.

Wrapping up the consolation bracket was Host, who lost to Georgia Tech senior Richard Biagiotti 6-2, 7-6 (6) and Sancilio, who battled a long 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 win over UCF freshman Fanming Meng.
