Another landmark hire has been made in the Jon Sumrall era at Florida. The Gators are reportedly hiring former All-SEC offensive tackle and UF alum Phil Trautwein as their new offensive line coach, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Trautwein was a crucial member of Florida's 2006 and 2008 national championship winning teams, earning All-SEC honors in both seasons.

In 2006, he earned second team All-SEC honors after starting all fourteen games for the Gators at left tackle. After missing the 2007 season with a stress fracture in his foot, he started 12 games in 2008 and earned first team All-SEC honors. A double Gator, Trautwein graduated from Florida with a bachelor's degree in 2007 and a master's degree in 2008.

After going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, Trautwein played four NFL games for the then-St. Louis Rams. After officially retiring in 2012, he became a graduate assistant coach at Boston College from 2013-15. He then coached at Davidson in 2016 and 2017, serving as tight ends coach and special teams coordinator.

He returned to Boston College in 2018, where he served as the Eagles' offensive line coach for two seasons. In his initial season in 2018, he helped lead guard Chris Lindstrom to All-American and All-ACC honors.

The next season, his Eagles allowed just 11 sacks, good for third-fewest in the nation. All five of his starting offensive lineman earned 2019 All-ACC honors.

He then was hired by James Franklin at Penn State in 2020, where he has served as offensive line coach for the past six seasons.

Over his tenure at Penn State, seven former Nittany Lion offensive lineman have been drafted, including 2024 first round selection Olumuyiwa Fashanu.

This upcoming draft, Trautwein is expected to add another first round pick to that list: guard Olaivavega Ioane. The redshirt junior was named a first team All-American by On3 Dec. 10.

Overall, Trautwein has coached 39 all-conference selections over the past eight years.

Trautwein is another major addition to Jon Sumrall's staff, which now includes offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and defensive coordinator Brad White.
