A pair of UF women's tennis players will visit Sin City today with an ace or two in mind.
Sophomore Marrit Boonstra and junior Anastasia Revzina are representing the Gators in the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championship at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The tournament begins at 10 a.m. at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Boonstra, ranked No. 34, is seeded eighth in the singles' bracket.
Of the 11 universities competing, No. 7 UF is the only Southeastern Conference team represented. Defending champion UCLA (No. 3), as well as Baylor (No. 4) and Stanford (No. 5) sent players to Las Vegas.
Last season's singles champion and No. 11-ranked Amanda McDowell, a Georgia Tech junior, will attend. She is seeded second behind Arizona State sophomore Kelcy McKenna.
Two of the nation's top three doubles teams will also be in action. Fresno State's Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukohova are No. 2, trailed by Baylor's Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi at No. 3.
Finals will be on Sunday.
Boonstra and Revzina will then await Stetson, their season opener, on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The No. 10 UF men are also traveling in an attempt to gain experience for their young squad.
Freshmen Joey Burkhardt and Carlos Cueto are headed to Lexington, Ky., for the SEC Coaches' Indoor Championships at 9 a.m.
The SEC Indoor boasts nine of the NCAA's top 100 players, including Burkhardt (No. 63) and Cueto (No. 87) who will each perform in the 64-player singles draw.
Back-to-back champion Georgia, ranked No. 3, leads a group of formidable conference teams. Tennessee and Mississippi are ranked Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.
The tournament concludes Monday.
The Gators men host Furman on Friday at 3 p.m. to commence the season.
