Museums and monuments are kind of cool, but we fashionistas know the real reason to travel is to shop. For everyone studying abroad and traveling over summer, the Avenue has researched some of the top shopping meccas in the world.

Buenos Aires - Palermo Viejo

Known for it’s trendy Europe-chic-meets-Argentinean-funk fashions and designers, Palermo Viejo is a must for shoppers. There are boutiques, street vendors, cafes, nightlife and a crafts fair in the square. Handmade jewelry and quality leather can found, at extremely affordable prices because of the exchange rate.

Sydney – Newton, King Street

This shopping district of Sydney has vintage shops, music stores, antique stores, bookstores, cafes, restaurants and art galleries. It is known as a bohemian melting pot of cultures.

Tokyo - Shibuya District

Sometimes deemed the “Times Square of Tokyo,” Shibuya is crowded, covered in neon lights and is the next fashion capital. Everything from luxury brands to Japanese street trends can be found here. It’s also a center for nightclubs, cafes and hotels.

Paris – Le Marais

Le Marais is full of up-and-coming designer’s boutiques and vintage stores. Shoppers are sure to find items that no one else has. They also offer art galleries, outlets for designers and the best falafel in Paris.

London – Portobello Road

Portobello Road street market calls itself the largest antique market in the world. Anyone can find something here. There’s a green and vegetable market, vintage clothing, jewelry, vintage sports equipment, cycle shops, a magnifying glass specialist and so much more.

NYC – Fifth Ave

Fifth Avenue has every designer store you could ever want plus boutiques. Walk down Fifth Ave and you can hop from Chanel to H&M to Bebe and end up in the world renowned shopping district of Soho. Walking down Fifth is the best way to spend a shopping day in NYC, and don’t forget to grab a street hotdog on your stroll.
