A list of finalists to replace Gainesville Police Chief Norman Botsford was released Monday.

The memo, written by Gainesville City Manager Russ Blackburn, was addressed to the City Commission.

The finalists include: Joseph Curreri, a Los Angeles Police Department captain; Craig Goralski, a Houston Police Department captain; Richard Hanna, a Gainesville Police Department major; Richard Lemack, former assistant city manager for the city of Hollywood, Fla., and previous assistant chief of police for the Hollywood Police Department; and Antonio Williams, chief of police for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

In the memo to the commission, Blackburn explains that after receiving 93 applications, the pool was narrowed down to 20 semi-finalists who met requirements including having eight years of senior-level command experience.

After discussing credentials and resumes in telephone interviews with each semi-finalist, the selection was narrowed down to five.

On Aug. 11 and 12, the finalists will be invited to attend a formal interview.

According to the memo, the interview will include a panel interview led by Blackburn, one-on-one interviews with Blackburn and a community reception to allow Gainesville residents to get to know each of the finalists.

Blackburn said that he encourages residents to make suggestions of who they think would be the best candidate for the position.
