Gainesville man arrested on charges of attempted murder for alleged camp saw attack

Man allegedly attacked woman outside of Butler Plaza Steak ’n Shake

A Gainesville man was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly attacking two people with a foldable camp saw in Butler Plaza.

According to the arrest report, 40-year-old Brandon Lindsey and a woman got into an argument over an e-bike outside the Steak ’n Shake near Butler Plaza.

The woman told police Lindsey jumped on her and took out a folding camp saw, so she grabbed the blade with her hand to stop him from cutting her face, according to the report.

Police noted she had cuts on her hands consistent with this story.

A second person, who was near the Target across the street, heard yelling and went over to see what was going on. He tried to check on the woman, who was behind the dumpster, according to the report.

However, Lindsey allegedly stopped him from checking on the woman and said to him, “I’ll kill you.”

Lindsey then allegedly lunged at the man, knocking him to the ground, the report said.

He told police Lindsey was trying to put the blade of the saw against his neck while telling him he was going to kill him, according to the report.

The man put his arms up to prevent Lindsey from cutting him, and police noted in the report he had cuts on his arms.

The man then allegedly put his finger in Lindsey’s mouth, allowing him to get out from underneath Lindsey and run away, according to the report.

When police arrived and questioned Lindsey about the camp saw, he allegedly ran from police and was later found in the Walmart parking lot.

He ran into the woods, but police successfully caught up to and arrested Lindsey, but he had a different account of the events.

He said he cooperated with police and the camp saw was the man’s, not his, according to the report.

He stopped running once in the Walmart parking lot because he “realized he hadn’t done anything wrong,” he told the police, according to the report.

Lindsey is being charged with attempted felony murder and aggravated battery.
