Since the national onslaught of mega-chain coffee stores, Americans have reached their caffeine-hype crest. We now find our tech-savvy, social networking selves wired in more ways than one as we buzz through multi-tasking days. The taste for the bitter roast of coffee beans is one that is usually and conveniently acquired amidst the juggling acts that characterize college years. In response to your April 13 article “Downtown Cupcake Shop Serves Vegan-Friendly Fare,” I would like to thank Brittany Brave for highlighting some of the many delicious reasons to choose vegan sweets in Gainesville. Vegans have a mere fraction of the rate of heart disease, strokes, obesity and cancer that meat-eaters have, and they don’t support one of the most ecologically destructive and cruelest industries on Earth: animal agriculture.
