Too often on Netflix, I find myself saying: “No, I do not want to watch ‘From Dusk ‘till Dawn 3,’ ‘Mean Girls 2’ or ‘Bad Girls From Mars’.” After the Qwikster fiasco and opposition from many of Hollywood’s largest production companies, some quality films are only attainable by paying extra. This leaves Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” library filled with titles that are little more than cinematic santorum.

If you’re a freshman, the weekday grind of repetitive conversation, handshaking and awkward smiling has left your face, hands and brain a little numb. Then the weekend arrives. You have a glorious Saturday or Sunday ahead of you filled with sleeping, Internet surfing and movie watching on a Netflix account that you probably don’t pay for. However, the problem then arises that you don’t know anything about anything because you’re a freshman — duh. You will probably find yourself weighing one of these general options and, if so, here are some tips to go along with them:

Brian Steele: After working at the Alligator for nine semesters, I can confidently say that this student-run paper has the most passionate, dedicated, and hardest working staff I have ever seen, and that includes the organizations I have worked for post-graduation. We worked for less than minimum wage, but we did so because we cared. A lot. I will be very disappointed in my alma mater should this go through. What is to gain from this? Limiting the voice of students? As a top-notch university, which I believe UF is, is this really the way to develop young minds to go into their chosen fields? Diversity should be clear for all to see, not hidden in the corner.

Despite all of the negative attention Netflix has gotten from the media over the past six months, such as the failed attempt to split the company into two services, the price changes and the loss of its contract with Starz Play, the company has managed to conjure up something that can separate it from its competition: streaming original content. It's about time that Netflix pleased its audience and announced good news.

With the rising cost of movie theater tickets, people must be economical in their film selections. There is a profound feeling of satisfaction that comes with walking out of the theater after seeing a great film and knowing with certainty that you haven't wasted your money. Many movies are worth seeing, but not all of these are worth seeing in theaters. "In Time," a science fiction thriller starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried that released Oct. 28, might not be the most frugal film choice for theater viewing.
