Gator Growl performances, fireworks wow crowds

The cold weather could not stop the excitement in the Swamp Friday night as performances by the UF Fightin’ Gator Marching Band, Albert and Alberta, Sister Hazel and The Fray pumped up the Gator Nation for its 90th Gator Growl, Footprints in the Swamp.

Guest column: Support in-state tuition for all military veterans

There is a bill moving through the Florida legislature that would allow honorably discharged military veterans to pay in-state tuition. For out-of-state military veterans applying to public universities and colleges in Florida, the bill would waive the one-year standard to establish residency.

Last week, Virginia, New Jersey and New York City had high-profile elections that garnered national attention. For the first time in more than 20 years, New York City has a Democratic mayor. Virginia — one of the most purple of states in the country — ended its bitter gubernatorial election when Democrat Terry McAuliffe won the governorship. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie retained his office and swiftly defeated his opponent.
