With the beginning of the fall semester over, students are no longer running around trying to get everything in order. The first few weeks are dedicated to buying books, finding classes and trying to organize schedules, but one thing that is commonly overlooked and neglected is car maintenance.

The Rally: Does Florida’s offense need to get its receivers involved?

Tom: We’re three games into Will Muschamp’s first season and finally have our first Southeastern Conference game under our belts, so we’re starting to get an idea of Florida’s offensive identity. To this point, it’s been a heavy dose of running backs, both on handoffs and in the passing game, but the receivers have been a non-factor.


UF researcher Kenneth Krysko removes a Burmese python from the underbrush near a South Florida canal. Krysko led a study published online in Zootaxa on Thursday documenting 137 introductions of non-native amphibians and reptiles to the state. Burmese pythons are known to consume birds, alligators and many protected species.

Floridians are well acquainted with their state's scalier residents. They have shared property lines with alligators and tree frogs, swept lizards out of their houses and gone to battle with a snake or two.

Police: Trucker killed 3 prostitutes across South

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Long-haul trucker John Boyer's gray beard and round face give him a grandfatherly appearance, but when he opens his mouth, he seethes with anger toward women. This hatred had murderous results, authorities said, as he picked up prostitutes around the Southeast, killed them and dumped their bodies near interstate highways. He's accused of at least three slayings and is suspected in a fourth.

Senator not always critical of energy loan program

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. David Vitter calls the Obama administration "reckless" for awarding billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies for renewable energy projects, including a $528 million loan to a now-bankrupt California solar panel maker. But Vitter was not always so critical of the loan program.
