On Friday, Alligator columnist Paul Murty addressed the sad fact that gun and knife crimes in the U.S. are exorbitantly high when compared to rates in the U.K. The emotional response to these tragic crimes is often to immediately bash guns and gun owners and attempt to curtail their rights, but the argument Murty raised for gun control needs more facts.

Intruder kills woman

Stacey Brown, 20, was murdered in a friends apartment by two armed intruders Monday night. Police are searching for a 1990s-model white Honda in connection with the suspects.

Crash downs power lines, blocks traffic

Pedestrians helped out after one driver hit two cars, knocked down a power line and flipped his SUV on its side at Northwest 15th Street and Northwest Fifth Avenue at about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A resident psychiatrist at UF’s College of Medicine was arrested early Sunday morning for driving drunk and failing to stop after hitting a pedestrian near Ben and Jerry’s on University Avenue.
