Lack of whiny pop and Papa Roach good for UF

Brian Amos Wednesday’s column in the opinion section was misinformed on the facts, and being he could one day be a politician making laws, I feel it is a must he realizes a few errors.
I completely agree with Mr. Amos. We must abolish federal scholarships. What use do they serve anyway? It’s not like anyone actually wins them based on merit. If Mr. Amos cannot win these, then we must remove them from existence. After all, isn’t making everything equal for everyone regardless of their abilities and hard work really what this country is about?
Brian Amos is certainly right about one thing: Public education in this country is in shambles and is slipping even further year after year. However, in staying with general conservative folly, he attributes the cause of this to “big government” and the always-ambiguous threat of secular education. At least he makes no attempt to hide his intellectual provincialism, decrying even an an honest conversation about socialism.
It’s been a long and crazy road to these midterm elections with lots of rhetoric and lots of ridiculous commercials. However, now it’s time to have a moment of seriousness before we go to the polls in less than two weeks.
Imagine one of your best friends was tested for HIV, and the test comes back positive.
Over the past couple of weeks I have gotten to know Bryan Griffin as a person and a friend. I know he would never intentionally plagiarize. He’s passionate person about his beliefs. I’m sure this was nothing more than him admiring an article and trying to get the message to others. All it would’ve taken was a citation I’m sure was subordinately overlooked due to the pressure of balancing activities and schoolwork with the column.
My father is a man of few words.
UF’s Student Body really has nothing interesting to say.
I want to thank The Alligator for the extraordinary opportunity given to me. It is a great privilege to be allowed to write a column.
I wrote last week that Bryan Griffin’s columns were unoriginal. In addition to his radically conservative views, the fact The Alligator fired him for his plagiarism shows he is unfit for any public office. When you go to the polls this November, be sure to vote against him for Alachua County Soil and Water Seat 4.
When I first read Bryan Griffin’s Thursday column, I found it encouraging he would attempt to broaden his horizons and break from his normal pattern of beating Republican talking points. However, when it came to my attention Griffin had plagiarized, I could only feel disappointed. Griffin and I rarely agreed on political issues during our four years together as undergraduates, but I always thought he took his paeans to justice and American values seriously. Sadly, I was mistaken.
Why does our football team only sing with the band and the fans after a win? I wasn’t as disappointed by the loss on Saturday as I was by how we trudged off the field with our tails between our legs. I hate losing as much as the next orange-and-blue-blooded fan, but it’s still great to be a Florida Gator, and another team can’t take that away. We let them have the game, but we didn’t have to let them have our pride. Our team should sing with the band even after a loss, because “in all kinds of weather we’ll all stick together.”
I was shocked by the assertion UF is “no longer an academic [and] athletic force” and it has returned to “mediocrity” after falling behind the University of Miami as the top-ranked college in Florida.
Dear Coach Meyer,
Nate Rushing's Friday column was much more pitiful than whatever he thinks of our country's political activity.
The tea party movement has definitely been the star of the election season, causing quite a stir in the primary elections earlier this year.
The Editorial Board could not be more spot-on: Orcas do not belong in tanks for their entire lives any more than humans belong in bathtubs for their entire lives.
Free Tilly?
Sean Quinn is mistaken when suggesting that Florida should decriminalize marijuana. It’s clearly time to completely re-legalize cannabis for responsible adults.
