Lo-fi Motown-soul duo III Bones graduates from Gainesville

On Monday evening, lo-fi Motown-soul duo III BONES held one of its final rehearsals in Ocala on American Eagle Farm. Light from the setting sun streamed in through the farmhouse’s floor-to-ceiling living-room windows as guitarist/singer Victoria de Benedicty, guitarist/singer Dalton Jacob and fill-in drummer Jared Reddick practiced for III Bones’ farewell show at High Dive on Saturday night.

For Your Entertainment: Five shows to get you ready for 4th of July

This Friday is America’s birthday, and what better way to celebrate than watching all your favorite shows set in the nation’s capital? I’m currently interning in Washington D.C. –sadly Olivia Pope is not here—and I think it’s given me a bit more insight into my favorite political shows. Here are my picks for the best fictional D.C. shows:

The Whole You: Women and lifting- 7 reasons to not fear the weight room

I can’t speak for all gyms (although it always happens in the few that I’ve seen), but there always seems to be some sort of invisible divide between the cardio and weight areas. We still live in a world where girls dominate the elliptical, while guys master the bar. Of course, I’m not saying that women should be the next body builders -- even though there already are plenty of successful ladies out there -- but having a little knowledge on how to lift wouldn’t kill anyone.

For Your Entertainment: New age of music

The internet has allowed unorthodox artists and bands who may not have normally risen to stardom gain worldwide attention and dedicated fan bases. However, the advent of torrenting and other forms of illegal downloading have sparked an ongoing debate on whether torrenting sites like the Pirate Bay damage an artists' success or spread their music to new audiences. While that debate continues to remain relevant, for this blog I will discuss a sub-issue of sorts: the downloading of leaked songs or albums.

For Your Entertainment: Remembering Michael Jackson

A week ago today marked the fifth anniversary of the legendary King of Pop’s passing. Everyone knows the story. Michael Jackson was 50 years old when he died at his home on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol. He gave 40 of those 50 years to the world. To us. When he died, he was in the midst of launching a series of comeback concerts titled “This Is It.”

This Week In Social Justice: “Bad bitches” really ARE the f****in’ problem

Apparently A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Drake and a number of other rappers out there have a problem in common: they love bad bitches. I take it that the women in question enjoy being as bad as the songs make them out to be. But I wonder how much truth there is in these rappers’ words when they claim that these women are a problem. I say we take a look at what the so-called “bad bitches” have to say for themselves and why they just might be part of the problem contributing to the continued oppression of women.

iGator: Amazon Fire, a glorified view-master or innovative smartphone?

Lately Amazon has taken their “Fire” brand to many new heights. It seems like Amazon labels everything as “Fire” just like Apple starts with the letter “i” before every product. Amazon recently released the Amazon Fire TV (like Apple TV) that allows you to stream everything you can to your TV flawlessly.

When Life Gives You Lemons: The thing about exes

We’re all on a search to find our own happy ending — our own version of what true love, success, and happiness entail. At least once during your search (and probably more than once) you will consider your ex as part of this master plan. Deep down we know it won’t work, because it never works. It didn’t work the first time or the second and it won’t work now either.
