UF alumnus brings musical talent overseas to North Korea

Offenther, originally from Coral Springs Fla., graduated from UF in 2007 with a degree in philosophy. He says the city of Gainesville saved him. Offenther dove into Gainesville life in every way through involvement on campus and in Gainesville’s cultural community, something he never felt he could do in his hometown. His first DJ gig was at the now-closed bar Tim and Terry’s Music & More, where he played the type of retro music that he wanted to dance to. “I wasn’t very good but it was unpretentious and fun,” he said.

‘Gun-Free Zones’ invite aggression

This week, I am so sickened and saddened by the cinema shooting in Aurora that it’s difficult to navigate my thoughts on the matter in a coherent fashion. Senseless acts like this boil down to something that not all psychologists and sociologists will admit exists: genuine evil.

Police team arrests six in pedophile operation sting

In a press conference Monday afternoon, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office identified Truitt, David A. Hurtt, Michael S. Smith, Dylan T. Kestel. Pierce C. Harrell and Dennis T. LaRoche, as suspects arrested by officers from ASO, and Alachua and Gainesville police departments during a five-day Internet sex sting that ended earlier that day.
