If you've been anywhere near Bo Diddley Community Plaza in downtown Gainesville recently, you might have noticed that protestors have made the open area their temporary home. Occupy Gainesville, in conjunction with Occupy Wall Street in New York City, began on Oct. 12 and is still in effect.

Scott promises space-based jobs

Gov. Rick Scott visited Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday and announced his commitment to keeping space-based jobs in Florida. Some UF students and faculty said this was a welcome sign of support, but they are hesitant about whether it will bolster the job market.

UF sees increase in chemical accidents on campus this semester

On Oct. 11, an explosion in a chemistry lab sent a student to the hospital with cuts on his face, hands and forearms. On Monday, Turlington Hall was evacuated after a toxic chemical was spilled in the basement. On Wednesday, fire trucks pulled up in front of Leigh Hall, a chemistry lab building, as it was evacuated because someone pulled a fire alarm.
