The UF men’s and women’s track & field teams continued to permeate through NCAA and school record top 10s on Friday and Saturday.
The sprinters, jumpers and throwers were in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Tyson Invitational, while the distance runners were in Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic.
The main contributors for UF in Iowa were redshirt junior Jessica Pascoe, freshman Trevor Foley and fifth-year senior Morgan Hull. As for the rest of the team in Arkansas, both the men’s and women’s 4x4 teams and junior Grant Holloway highlighted the weekend.
Holloway continued great start to the season. He ran the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.43, one millisecond off of his personal record. His time was the second-fastest time in NCAA history, only behind his own time of 7.42 in this very meet in 2018.
Both the men’s and women’s 4x4 teams placed a time in the top five nationally. The men’s team, consisting of Holloway and sophomores Benjamin Lobo Vedel, Cory Poole and Chantz Sawyers ran a time of 3:03.17. That was good enough to place No. 3 nationally and on UF’s all-time list. It was also the 14th fastest time in collegiate history.
The women’s team, consisting of sophomores Taylor Manson and Nikki Stephens, freshman Doneisha Anderson and senior Sharrika Barnett, ran a time of 3:31.64, which ranks fifth nationally and eighth in school history.
Senior Yanis David competed in the triple jump for the first time this season. Her jump placed No.4 and her personal record remains tied for No. 1 in the nation. David is tied for the No. 1-ranked long jumper.
In Ames, Pascoe ran her first 3,000-meter race for the Gators. She had a time of 9:21.72, the ninth fastest time in UF history. Foley and Hull both ran the 5,000 meter, and Foley’s 14:10.24 time barely placed him at tenth all-time in UF men’s history. Hull earned the No. 9 spot on the women’s all-time list with a time of 16:36.71.
The weekend was just a continuation of a hot start to the indoor season for the Gators. The top 10 rankings have been updated in running, jumping and throwing events this year.
