Police are investigating a security threat sent by email to Alachua County Public Schools and at least three nearby school districts early Wednesday.
Alachua, Baker, Citrus and Columbia county schools were sent the same email threatening violence in schools, said ACPS spokesperson Jackie Johnson. The threat, signed with a name law enforcement is not releasing, did not mention any specific schools, she said.
The school system doesn’t believe there’s anything to the threat, she said.
“We are working with law enforcement, but we don’t consider this a credible threat,” Johnson said. “We should just go about our day.”
Alachua County Sheriff's Office, as well as state and federal law enforcement, are tracing the source of the email, which is overseas, according to a ACPS press release.
ACPS has resource officers and deputies in place at all schools Wednesday due to the threat.
UF Public Safety sent out a message on Twitter stating it also placed officers at P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School, located at 1080 SW 11th St.
