BSU sponsors free haircuts for Black History Month

Wads of hair carpeted the Reitz Union Colonnade Tuesday afternoon as UF students lined up to get free haircuts and massages as part of the Black History Month events around campus.
"It went well even though it was so windy out," said Celia Lynch, the program's planner. "I saw hair balls fly by like tumbleweed."
The Black Student Union, in coordination with the Reitz Union Board, provided the pampering as a part of its "Sophistication in Black" theme to celebrate Black History Month.
"This Tuesday, sophistication is about pride," Lynch said. "Pride starts with health and beauty."
Students seemed most surprised at the good quality of the services, she said.
Feionne Fullerton, who stopped by the event, said her free massage made the pain from her book-heavy backpack go away.
BSU's Black History Month Committee is hosting an event every Tuesday on the Colonnade from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this month.
Lynch said each event will highlight aspects of sophistication.
"These events are for everyone," she said. "Everyone eats food. Everyone likes a massage. Everyone should come out and celebrate history."
