Balloons in all colors of the rainbow floated above the Plaza of the Americas Thursday afternoon during the Pride Picnic, a food giveaway organized by the LGBT Student Affairs Cabinet.

The picnic served between 150 and 200 students in an hour and a half.

“We wanted to have a day where students could come out and learn about the resources we have on campus,” LGBT Student Affairs Cabinet Director Cody Talcott said. “And what better way to do it than with free food?”

The Gelato Company donated gelato, and the organizations purchased picnic foods such as sandwiches, wraps and potato salad.

Talcott said the cabinet offers support to students who feel alienated, discriminated or unwelcome in social situations due to their sexuality.

“Personally, I’ve had a good experience being part of the community here, but it’s not so easy for everyone,” he said.

Talcott said the cabinet strives to make UF a friendly and safe environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation.

“We want every student to feel comfortable at UF,” he said.
