Don’t believe the hype.

Despite record lows, a load of rumors and the collective hopes and dreams of everyone in Gainesville, officials aren’t expecting snow to fall this Friday night.

Once again, Floridians are left high and dry and shivering in the freezing cold.

There remains an outside chance of flurries, said David Schuler, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, although it’s more likely to be a light rain.

North Florida continues to face one of the coldest winters in its history. Wednesday, the NWS center in Jacksonville braved 21 degree weather, the city’s coldest temperature on record, Schuler said.

“It hasn’t been that cold since 1884,” he said.

Despite the unlikelihood of snow, some residents are still crossing their fingers.

“I vote ‘yes’ on snow,” said Amanda Du Bour, a zoology student at Santa Fe College.
