At the first Student Senate meeting of Fall, 23 students were approved as assistant supervisors of elections.

A minimum of four students are needed to fill the positions, according to the Student Government 700 Election Codes.

All 23 of the students recommended by the supervisor of elections were approved without objection.

The positions are unpaid, said Senate President Jenny Clements. Supervisor of Elections Eric Hobbs wrote in an email that 27 students applied for the positions over Summer.

“With this number of ASOE’s we will be able to adequately staff each of our polling locations to ensure that it is in compliance with the election codes,” Hobbs wrote.

The assistant supervisors of elections plan on monitoring campaign activities on Turlington Plaza as parties get ready for Fall elections, Hobbs said. The assistant supervisors of elections can inform students about SG because they’re not affiliated with a party, he said.

During the meeting, UF Student Body President Susan Webster also announced that the One Pulse Unity Project will have its closing ceremony Thursday.

Daaneyal Siddiqi was approved for a position on the election commission.

On Friday, political parties can begin registering at 9 a.m. at the SG offices, Hobbs said at the meeting.

“I will be there bright and early,” he said.
