Why is it that Joshua Simmons and other conservatives think that using up a resource (oil) to extinction is a logical and realistic approach to our current energy problem? Not to mention that when this resource is burned on such a massive scale, it is severely detrimental to our environment.
This is a short-sighted, illogical and totally unrealistic solution to our energy problem. Instead of blaming liberals for having responsible, environmentally sound ideas, Mr. Simmons should be asking some more pertinent questions.
For example, why is Big Oil contributing less than a fraction of 1 percent of its earnings toward the development of renewable forms of energy? Why has the automobile industry been so far behind on this issue as well? Why has our own government been dragging its feet on investing in renewable energy?
The short-term focus on profit blinds us from the long-term consequences of inaction on this issue.
Creating a more sustainable economy and more renewable energy sources is not a liberal or a conservative issue. Finding sensible solutions to our energy crisis is the only logical and realistic path for a healthy future for us and our children.
